# Korea Workation Visa (F1-D)

A workation visa type (F-1-D) is available from January 1, 2024.

## Scope of activity

A workation visa (so called digital nomad visa) is required for foreigners who can work remotely and want to have a tour for up to 3 years in South Korea. Your dependent family members can also have this visa. Dependent family member means the spouse and children.

A spouse and children don't have to apply for visa with main applicant together.

Workation visa holders cannot be employed by domestic companies while they can get a new job from overseas companies.

## Visa issuance

Check requirements for workation visa as below.

- You must own a business or be employed by the company and must be able to work remotely.
- You must have the same categorized occupation for over 1 year. \*You don't need to be employed by the same company.
- You must be 18 and over. Your children don't have to be.
- You must earn at least the following income based on the Korean GNI per capita last year. Dependent family members don't have to.
  - Alone
    - 18 years old \~ 34 years old: 1.5 times than the GNI if you stay in the Seoul capital area (Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi-do) but the same income as the GNI if in the other area.
    - 35 years old \~: 2 times if you say in the Seoul capital area but 1.5 times if in the other area.
  - With family: 2 times if you live in the Seoul capital area but 1.5 times if in the other area.
- You and your dependent family members must have private health insurance with coverage of over 100,000,000 KRW.
- You must not have a violent crime record in your home country or in any country where you have stayed for more than 1 year consecutively within the last 5 years. Dependent family members don't have to.

## Change of visa status

You can change to the workation visa after entering Korea with [short-term visa including visa waiver](https://www.bangduty.com/en/visa/short-term-visit-c3/). Requirements are the same as visa issuance. However, I strongly recommend applying for this visa at the Korean consulate if you cannot have an English criminal record certificate.
